Fonte Santa da Franqueira
A fountain linked to the sanctuary of A Franqueira, in A Cañiza, and to devotion to the Virgin of the Fountain, one of the oldest Marian images in Galicia.
According to tradition, the image was carried by oxen that stopped to drink at a spring on the site, where the temple was later built; hence the close relationship between water and the origin of the sanctuary. The waters of the surrounding fountains have long been credited with beneficial properties. The Fonte Santa is an element of deep popular religiosity, integrated into the devotional and scenic complex of A Franqueira, the destination of two well-attended pilgrimages declared of tourist interest.
