A historic fountain in the centre of A Cañiza, built in 1877 to serve the carriages and travellers on the Vigo-Villacastín route along the road opened a few years earlier, the forerunner of today's N-120.

Located in what was the main street of the town, it served as a posting stage and horse trough. It is a testament to A Cañiza's past as a stopping point and to the boost that the Royal Road gave to the town. It survives as a heritage and ethnographic element linked to the history of communications and daily life in the municipality.
