Pesqueiras

Imaxe por defecto

Unique structures on both sides of the river Miño in Arbo, made from solid granite blocks that jut into the riverbed from both banks.

Their purpose was to catch fish such as salmon, lamprey and shad: the walls, called poios, channel the current and leave narrow gaps where cone-shaped nets were placed. Documentadas as far back as the 12th century, many probably date from Roman times. They can be explored via an interpretive trail starting from Sela beach.
