Lamprey Festival

Imaxe por defecto

Gastronomic festival celebrated in Arbo since 1960, taking advantage of the lamprey season (January to April), declared an Event of International Tourist Interest.

The lamprey, a primitive fish older than 400 million years that once captivated Roman emperors, is caught in the Mino River using 'pesqueiras', historic stone structures that symbolize Arbo's river culture. During the festival, inside large marquees, visitors taste lamprey prepared in various traditional ways—in its own blood, Bordeaux-style, or in savory pastries—paired with Condado wines, to the sound of bagpipes and the local municipal band. Local restaurants also offer the product.
